Annual Picnic
Perch Base held its Annual Picnic meeting on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Paloma Community Park in Peoria, AZ.
Many of the side-dishes and desserts were brought in by the membership, but the "duty chef,"
Stan Reinhold, who has a food handling license, cooked the burgers and hotdogs, supervising the "mess cranks,",
our Perch Base Vice Commander, Don Robertson, and our Chief of the Boat (COB,) Kirby Anderson. Special thanks
to these three gents for their contribution to the success of the picnic.
During the meeting, our Base Commander, David Heighway, led the Pledge of Allegiance. David Heighway introduced our
visitors, including Tom Warner from Gudgeon Base in Prescott Valley, AZ and Mike and Romie Ortiz, from
Tucson Base. Mike is also our Western Region I District Commander. David also read the Tolling of the Boats Ceremony for the boats
lost in April.

A nearby family was launching rockets. They were impressed when I told them that some of our SubVets at the picnic were missile technicians that launched Polaris ballistic missiles!
