Memorial Day
Perch Base USSVI participated in the Memorial Day Ceremonies at the National Cemetery of Arizona, including Tolling of the Boats,
on Monday, May 29, 2023.
Carl Miner and Dan Marks placed the wreaths for the Submarine Veterans of WW2 and the Perch Base Submarine Veterans at the
Memorial Day ceremony. Governor Joy and Howard Doyle conducted the Tolling of the Boats ceremony.

The entrance to the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
Prior to the event, music was provided by the 108th Army National Guard Band.
The event was started with a flyover.
During the flyover, one of the airplanes split off to create the "Missing Man Formation."
Dignitaries on stage included Capt. Pete Lumianski (ret) in front center of photo. Pete is the Executive Director of the USS Phoenix (SSN-702) Cold War Foundation. Immediately behind and to the left of Pete is our Perch Base Chaplain, Past Commander, Holland Club and Life member Jim Denzien.

A few of our Perch Base members in attendance: (l-r) Life Member and Event Coordinator David Heighway, Life Member and Treasurer Joe Trotter, & Past Commander Howard Doyle. Beyond Howard are his guests Chad Millette, an Air Force Retiree and his wife Elise Millette.
Governor Joy was in attendance and also led the Tolling of the Boats later in the ceremonies.

After the main ceremony, Perch Base conducted the Tolling of the Lost Boats Ceremony at the Mark 18 Torpedo Monument in the Purple Heart Circle. The Mark 18 Torpedo Monument was placed by the U.S. Submarine Veterans of World War II. Special thanks to Bob Gilmore who polished up the torpedo earlier in the week.
