Perch Base
Annual Picnic
Perch Base held its Annual Picnic meeting on Saturday, April 8, 2023. This was the first picnic at the Paloma Community Park in
Peoria, AZ, instead of the White Tanks Park in Waddell and it was a great change.
Governor Joy gave an invocation and grace prior to the lunch being served. Many of the dishes were brought in by the membership, but
the "duty chef," Stan Reinhold, who has a food handling license, cooked the burgers and hotdogs. Our Perch Base Chief of the
Boat (COB,) Don Robertson also "mess cranked" for Stan. Special thanks to both Stan and Don for their contribution to the
success of the picnic.
Following lunch, our Base Commander, George Woods, opened the meeting, led the Pledge of Allegiance and read the USSVI purpose. George Woods
introduced our visitors, including members from Gudgeon and Tucson Base.
George also read the Tolling of the Boats Ceremony for the boats lost in April, with the support of Don Unser who tolled the bell.
