Gilbert Veterans Day Ceremony
Several Perch Base members brought the USS Phoenix (SSN-702) to the 2019 Town of Gilbert, AZ Veterans Day Ceremony on November 7, 2019,
at the Gilbert Municipal Center.
We (a.k.a., Davy Jones) also signed up a new member, Charles Tobias. Welcome, Charles.
They say, "There's no such thing as a free lunch," but local restaurants fed us, too!

The Town of Gilbert gave each veteran a challenge coin.
We watched the MASH 4077 helicopter, a 1952 Bell 47, arrive for the event.
And then the USS Phoenix (SSN-702) surfaced.

The Williams Field High School Symphonic Band entertained the crowd with patriotic music prior to the ceremony.
Color Guard, performed by American Legion Post 39, Korean War Veterans, Perry High School AFJROTC, Gilbert Police Department, Gilbert Fire Department, and Higley Unified School District AFJROTC.
The Gilbert High School AFJROTC presented the Setting of the MIA/POW Table.
The Higley Unified School District AFJROTC presented the Battle Field Cross.
Chief Dennis Gardner, one of this year's Arizona Veteran Hall of Fame recipients is presented the Proclamation from the Gilbert Vice-Mayor.
Dennis is a Submariner from Gilbert, AZ.
Lieutenant General (ret) Jeffrey W. Talley was the Keynote Speaker.
The Gilbert Fire Ceremonial Team performed as the POW/MIA/KIA Honor Guard folded the flag.

Children from one of the nearby schools passed out Thank You cards to the Veterans.
Some of us are old enough to remember Art Linkletter and "Kids Say the Darndest Things."
And to quote another old show, Dragnet, "only the names are changed to protect the (VERY) innocent."
