Perch Base member Dan Marks (right,) who rode the nuke boat USS Ray (SSN-653) presents a piece of the deck planking from the
diesel boat USS Ray (SSR-271) to Perch Base Holland Club member Bob Wright (left.) The USS Ray (SS-271) participated in 8 war
patrols in World War II. The boat was decommissioned after the war, but recommissioned in 1952, converted to a radar picket
submarine and redesignated as SSR-271. Bob was a member of the recommissioning crew.
Bob's Ray was later decommissioned in 1958 and Dan's Ray was decommissioned in 1993.
